Tom Morello To Serve As Executive Music Producer For New Film 'Metal Lords'

Tom Morello can now include "Executive Music Producer" to his already impressive resumé.

On Thursday (February 25), it was revealed that Games of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are working on their first film for Netflix, Metal Lords, and the Rage Against The Machine guitarist would be handling the music side of things. According to a press release, the “coming-of-age comedy” is about “two kids [who] want to start a heavy metal band in a high school where exactly two kids care about heavy metal.” Sounds like the perfect fit for Morello.

Metal Lords was written and co-produced by Weiss and will be directed by Peter Sollett (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist). Benioff will serve as an executive producer. The movie is set to star Jaeden Martell (Knives Out, It), Isis Hainsworth (Misbehaviour,Emma), and Adrian Greensmith in his feature debut. This will be Morello's first major Hollywood production credit.

Though RATM's highly anticipated reunion was thwarted by the pandemic, Morello's kept himself plenty busy over the past year. Aside from this project, he released a replica of his signature guitar Soul Power and Cry Baby wah wah pedal; compiled a photo memoir; released a solo EP; collaborated with other artists; and even taught fans how to play guitar.

A Metal Lords release date has yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more details.
